In 1994, I had a relapse of Acute Bronchitis. I was tired of all the antibiotics that didn’t seem to work beyond their fourteen day regimen, and I was looking for another way of treating my problem. I remembered seeing an herb shop on the way home one day and told my fiance to go there and tell them what my problem was and ask them if they could help. I figured, at this rate, anything would be better than fourteen days of of the same old thing.
He came back from the shop with four herbs and instructions on how to use them. In four days, I was back to my old self, and went to thank the owner of the shop. She smiled at me and ask me if I was interested in learning more about natural health. I was enthusiastic! Of course, I wanted to learned everything that I could. She made me a Nature’s Sunshine Distributor, and began to teach me the ropes. I bought books on my own, took notes, and even started to experiment with remedies on my own. I made my own teas, cough syrups, and wrote down the recipes. I loved the feeling of being in control of my own health!
In 1996, I started reading about aromatherapy. I researched essential oils and how to mix them in the same way that I had approached learning about herbs and their uses. I wrote down recipes, made my own soaps, added essential oils to lotions, and even clean the house with them to this day.
I realize that I will never know all there is to know about natural health. I never had the money to go to a university to get a certificate on herbalism. I just learned by researching, cross-referencing, and trying what I blended together on myself before passing it on to my friends and family.
